Made in Canada Breakfast Cereals
At ShopCanadianStuff.ca we’ve got the scoop on Canadian made breakfast cereals and I believe this is a complete list. I’m writing about cold breakfast cereals, not oatmeal, porridge, or anything you’d describe as granola (for a partial listing of made in Canada granolas click here).
It is a food category unfortunately dominated by the American brands Kellogg’s, Post and General Mills. There are, however, several made in Canada breakfast cereal options coming from American brands and some Canadian companies making cereals in Canada as well.

Breakfast cereals made in Canada by American companies
Post identifies a number of cereals as prepared in Canada, which is generally a less significant claim than made in Canada though it appears as though their factories are actually baking the cereals so they should be able to claim made in Canada. Post cereals prepared in Canada include Shredded Wheat, Shreddies, Raisin Bran, Weetabix, Cranberry Almond Crunch and Barbara’s Bakery Puffins. Post has two factories in Canada, though they have announced the planned closure of the Cobourg, Ontario plant and expanding production volume for their plant in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Kellogg’s makes in Canada Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, All-Bran (“Buds” variety only), 5 out of 8 varieties of Mini Wheats (original, low sugar original, blueberry, brown sugar and strawberry), 2 out of 3 varieties of Krave (chocolate and brownie), two flavours of Vector (Maple and Peanut Butter) and original Froot Loops but not Marshmallow Froot Loops.
Kellogg’s also makes and owns the brand for Kashi Organic Honey Toasted Oat Cereal, all other Kashi varieties appear to not be made in Canada. Kellogg’s Canadian production is done in Belleville Ontario, another factory in London, Ontario was closed in 2014.
Quaker a division of the American food and beverage giant PepsiCo makes all types of Quaker Harvest Crunch (except those labeled “protein”) and Quaker Oatmeal Squares and Corn Squares cereals in Canada in addition to Life Cereal and some boxes of Cap’n Crunch (only some boxes of Cap’n Crunch are made in Canada, more on that below). Quaker production in Canada is done at two plants in Trenton and Peterborough, Ontario.
President’s Choice may have a few options made in Canada though their information is inconsistent but it has been reported that’s Post’s factory in Cobourg, Ontario makes PC Fibre First and PC Crunchy Cranberry Almond.
Breakfast cereals made in Canada by Canadian companies
Perhaps of most interest to readers, this brings me to two Canadian owned companies making breakfast cereals in Canada.
First is Farm Girl which offers Rainbow Hoops, Honey Os, Cinnamon Crisps, Chocolate Puffs, Peachy Blueberry Snaps, Bananapple Fritter and Double Chocolate Fritter.
Second is Truely Cereal which offers Cocoa, Fruity, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, S’mores, Cinnamon, Blueberry Muffin, Maple Donut and Honey. Both Farm Girl and Truely are really gluten free specialty foods with high protein and prices to match but Farm girl does offer discounts for ordering a bundle of 4 boxes or ordering a subscription.
A third Canadian owned company, GoGo Quinoa, makes a breakfast cereal in Canada, called Puffed Quinoa, but I have found that it is almost always out of stock.
Inno Foods makes Almond Fruit Crunch, at their facility in Langley, BC. This gluten free cereal is similar to Post Cranberry Almond Crunch but made in Canada by a Canadian owned company.
MadeGood offers 4 varieties of their Crispy Light Granola (Apple Cinnamon, Strawberry, Cocoa Crunch and Chocolate Banana) which are strangely not sold or mentioned on the company’s own website, but they have confirmed that they are still in production (click here for links to buy online). Despite the name the Crispy Light Granola cereals actually contain more rice crisps than granola. MadeGood has also recently discontinued their other Rice Crisps Cereal line, it is still listed at some online retailers and may be possible to get an old box. MadeGood does still have a packaged Rice Krispie square style product called Crispy Squares.
Sometimes made in Canada?
I’ve seen an interesting challenge with boxes of Cap’n Crunch in person at two different stores, one box clearly labelled as made in Canada the other as Imported (a video is available here showing it clearly). As always, check the labels before buying.

Nature’s Path cereals are not made in Canada
Worth a cautionary note is Nature’s Path which is being listed as Canadian in several online stores. It is a Canadian owned company but none of their cold breakfast cereal varieties including granolas are made in Canada.
What about One Degree Organics?
An honourable mention of sorts goes to the Canadian Company One Degree Organics Rice Crisps which, I’m told by email from the Company, are currently only produced in the USA with ingredients from several countries. On their website they actually list the individual farmers supplying ingredients. All their other products are processed in Canada using a mix of Canadian and imported ingredients. I’ve seen different pictures of boxes of the Organic Rice Crisps marked as made in USA and others marked as made in Canada (One Degree Orgnaics confirmed that current production is only made in USA).

Comments
Post just announced they will close their Cobourg plant (call called it Colburg).
This is terrible news, I see a report saying the Cobourg plant and another Post plant in Nevada were announced as closing.
And thanks for spotting the spelling error, I’ll fix that tonight.
